Five Simple Facts of Life

1/4/2020

In welcoming the New Year, 2020, I am reintroducing my guiding pearls of wisdom, Five Simple Facts of Life, personal gems that make sense, and help me get through the day.

Over the last few years several simple facts of life have crystalized for me. As I avoid stress as much as possible – or at least try to, although that alone can be stressful and I’m not crazy after all – I find I am able to focus more clearly on what is truly important or gratifying to me. As a result, I attempt to ignore the bothersome stuff that too often takes time away from where I want to be emotionally. Based on several before and after scenarios in my life, I’ve found that minimizing stress can be a remarkably healthy habit.

With that soliloquy out of the way, and in the name of friendship, I want to share here the simple life rules I have discovered. Actually, the number is closer to ten, but in keeping with the spirit of simplicity  -- which is what this writing is all about -- I slashed the rules down to five. For anyone interested in additional rules for a simpler life, just comment here and let me know. By the way, while it dawns on me that you may feel that additional rules do not logically equal a simpler life, all I can say in defense is please, just trust me.

Below are the facts in a list, not necessarily a sequence, just a list.

1. Follow the instructions
2. Eat only when hungry
3. Keep your eyes on the road
4. Don’t argue with fact
5. Know when to quit

Bonus
:
Don’t forget to breathe

Who is she, this person writing about the arts of her life, the passions, the learning? Notice how learning something is at the core of everything she writes — a different perspective perhaps from what other creative types write about, but it is real for this writer — this eagerness to learn and grow with new knowledge.
